Apple iPhone 3G 8GB

Apple iPhone 3G 8GB

The iPhone 3G is mostly what we were hoping for in the second version of the too-popular-for-itself handset. Apple addressed call quality concerns, as well as demands for a faster Web experience via 3G and corporate email support, already making it a worthwhile upgrade for many first-gen iPhone owners. And while the addition of stereo Bluetooth and Assisted-GPS are mere catch-ups to other smartphones, the new App Store boosts it way ahead. We're a little disappointed that the iPhone 3G still lacks video recording, and we'd like a user-replaceable battery and expandable storage, but overall it's a thoroughly satisfying phone and iPod. Check out our Top 15 iPhone Applications! Olyimpic stupidity

Olyimpic stupidity

More than once now, have I found myself shaking my head at the morons otherwise known as "on-the-spot" TV journalists.

I can well imagine that an exhausted athlete, sweat pouring from their brow, could well do without being asked a question like "Do you think you tried as hard as you could have?!?"

Lets take a moment to consider the possible responses:

1) Why yes, yes I did!

2) No. For some reason, I just lacked the motivation to fully capitalize on the last 4 years of intense training that all led up to this single critical moment in my life. A moment I will probably relive in my dreams and nightmares for years to come. Nay, a moment I will in fact relive again and again on the couch of my mental health councillor while I fight to rediscover my own self-worth as a human being.

3) I really couldn't say for sure, what do you think?!?

And it's not like it was just one isolated incident. These idiot women who don't know the first thing about what it means to be an Athlete have been let loose on these poor unsuspecting souls, just like a truck-load of ankle biting Chiwawas. Only the chosen few are in the joyous position of not giving a flying sh!t how stupid the questions are, because you guessed it, they won a medal. The Sky could be falling in on their heads and they would probably still have a stupid grin on their faces.

But what was the alternative, Tony Vietch?

How to validate length of input into a multi-line textbox

You can validate the length of input of an ordinary TextBox using the MaxLength attribute.  However, this doesn't work if the TextBox has a TextMode of Multi-line.  In those instances, use this piece of code.

<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">

    function MaxLength()

    {

        var txt = $get("<%=ResponseNote_TextBox.clientid %>");

        var msg = $get("<%=Message_Label.clientid %>");

        if (txt.value.length > 500)

        {

            SelectText();

            msg.className = "Failure";

            msg.innerHTML = "* Response has more than 500 characters";

        }

        else

        {

            if (msg.innerHTML == "* Response has more than 500 characters")

            {

                msg.innerHTML = "";

            }

        }

    }

    function SelectText()

    {

            var txt = $get("<%=ResponseNote_TextBox.clientid %>");

            var rng = txt.createTextRange();

            rng.moveStart("character", 501);

            rng.moveEnd("character", 0);

            rng.select();

    }

    function RemoveCRLFs()

    {

   // debugger;

    var txt = $get("<%=ResponseNote_TextBox.clientid %>");

    var str = window.clipboardData.getData("Text");

    str = str.replace(/(\s*(\r?\n|\r))+$/, '');

    txt.value = str ;

    }

</script>

Greencore's solar powered air conditioner

Greencore's solar powered air conditioner
It's an idea that makes perfect sense - when it's hot, the sun is out, so why not utilize that energy to help cool down. Californian based Greencore has developed a hybrid solar-powered air conditioning system for both fixed and mobile applications which can cool a room up to 600 square feet in size using a single 170 watt solar panel, or switch to using power from the grid when necessary...

Electric Nissan to debut in 2010

Electric Nissan to debut in 2010
August 12, 2008 What will the electric car ownership experience be like? Nissan has given us a glimpse of what early adopters are letting themselves in for - rather than bundling expensive, consumable battery packs into the price of the car, Nissan plans to sell its 2010 mass-market battery-electric car for around the same price as a standard petrol car, and lease the battery pack to the buyer on a monthly fee. And the battery lease plus electricity charges should still end up cheaper than a petrol bill. Don't worry, it won't look anything like the test vehicle pictured!..

Toshiba Satellite M300-S1002X

Toshiba Satellite M300-S1002X

Toshiba’s latest business notebook, the M300, won’t blow your hair back with whiz-bang features and record-shattering performance, but it’s a very solid package that covers all the basics one needs in a laptop that’s somewhere between an ultra-portable and a desktop replacement. This 14.1” notebook is tastefully appointed in a Titanium Silver finish, weighs just 5.2lbs, and has one of the best keyboards we’ve ever sampled in a notebook. Though its trialware issues and long boot time are easily remedied, its lack of security features –either biometric or facial recognition – are disappointing on a laptop aimed at business users. Overall it’s still a surprisingly well-polished machine that is extremely affordable and easy to live with.

File format standards getting sorted!

File format standards getting sorted!
It has taken a flippin long time, but it is good to see these issues sorted/being sorted:

  • Adobe PDF ratified by ISO as standard - finally let go of proprietary format last year and put it up for ratification
  • Microsoft OOXML ratified by ISO as standard - although the ISO version won't be incorporated until Office 14 comes out next year, and the approval is being challenged by 4 governments . .. .
  • ODF being supported by Microsoft - in an Office 2007 Service Pack to be released in 2009

Back in April I wrote about Microsoft's music store closing, thus rendering any music purchased from that store worthless. Why? The music is DRM infested, and thus will stop playing after they switch off their servers that are needed for license veri... (more in the full post)

Mobile Me - Or is it?

Mobile Me - good in practice, not so sure about the execution.

My wife has been without email for 3 days now, missing out on business-critical communications. No useful explanation has been provided by Apple, Support is virtually impossible to contact and to claim that only 1% of users are affected seems disingenuous given the vast numbers of irate posts on Apple Support!

The theory is great but a better tagline might be "Exchange For (Some Of) The Rest of Us"!

Apple may well become a victim of their own success, I think.Undecided
